How Shopping For Fruit May Be An Enjoyable Way To Help Yourself Be Healthy

By Diana Lensbury

Many people dread grocery shopping. Reading labels, counting calories or carbs can be a pain in the neck. Trying to find healthy things for you and your family doesn't have to be such a tedious task. Believe it or not, Shopping for Fruit can actually be fun.

You don't have to stick to the same store you always go to to get everything you need. There are farmers markets and places with fresh fruit, grown locally, in many places for you to explore.

When making your selections, avoid any products that are bruised. Once an injury has occurred, mold will quickly set in and rot will set in. Many things, such as bananas, pears, pineapples and melons can be ripened at home. If these things are a bit green at the store, bring them home, put them in a paper bag with a few holes cut in it, fold it over and let it sit on the counter for a couple days. When everything looks ripe, you can put it in the refrigerator.

There are some fruits that have to be ripened while they're still attached to their trees or bushes. Berries, apples and oranges are a few of them. These things need a cool place to be stored in order to stay fresh as long as possible.

Processed foods may be cheap and easy to make, but fruit and vegetables are ready to eat raw. They are not only simple to eat, they're also good for your body. If you're dieting, or you just want to make your body last a little longer, eating fresh produce, and limiting the processed foods, can help you achieve this goal.

Not everyone likes vegetables, but most people (including kids) are able to find at least one kind of fruit that they absolutely love. Replacing snacks and treats that are high in sugar and fat, with a sweet bit of produce may not only help you feel like a better parent, your kids will probably thank you later in life.

If you want to get in some added exercise, take the kids with you when you go Shopping for Fruit. Chasing them down and keeping them in check might give you a workout that you're forced to do. When you get home, you can make dessert out of the delicious berries hiding in your bag.
